The Lizard's Bite is the fourth installment in the Nic Costa mystery series by British crime novelist David Hewson (born 1953, Yorkshire, England). The book was first published in 2006 by Macmillan in the UK and by Delacorte Press in the US.

The story sends Roman detectives Nic Costa and Gianni Peroni into exile in Venice, specifically to the glass-making island of Murano. Ordered to investigate what looks like an open-and-shut accident, a fire in a glass foundry that has claimed the lives of master glass-blower Uriel Arcangelo and his wife Bella, the two detectives quickly find the insular Arcangeli family and the predatory presence of an Englishman in town pulling the case in directions that do not add up.

Hewson uses the lagoon city and the centuries-old glass-blowing community as a richly atmospheric backdrop for a story about passion, corruption and the cost of betrayal. The novel is suitable for readers of European crime fiction in English, particularly fans of Donna Leon, Andrea Camilleri and other Italian-set mystery series.
